Accelerometry

Acronym(s): ACC; ACM (for minors)

Description: Accelerometry is an objective measure of physical activity and sleep. Adults are asked to wear a wrist and/or waist device for 7 consecutive days which captures bouts of movement. This was a voluntary aspect of the survey.

Additional Information/References/Data Sources: *Wrist and/or waist device, *Wrist device only for minors

Instrument Used:
(instruments may vary slightly between survey iterations, below are the survey instruments as they were included in each survey year listed

Body Measures

This includes weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference, and blood pressure measured by a trained SHOW field staff member, as well as self-reported weight and height. Record Source: NHANES

Anthropometry & Blood Pressure

Acronym(s): ANT; ANT_DER

Description: The Anthropometry & Blood Pressure section provides information on physical measures, such as height and weight. Self-reported measurements are also included in this section.

Additional Information/References/Data Sources: SHOW participants ages 21-74 are eligible for this section. Data source is NHANES

Bioimpedance

Acronym(s): BIA

Description: Objective measure of body composition (amount of body fat)

Instrument Used:
